Football: Austin Peay Snaps OVC Losing Streak, Beats Racers

Austin Peay snapped a 21-game Ohio Valley Conference losing streak this past weekend, defeating Murray State 27-7 during Family Weekend in Murray.

The longest in-conference losing in Division I has ended. The Austin Peay Governors took advantage of Murray State’s struggling offense. The Racers failed to move the ball up the field, totaling 88 yards in total offense.

The Governors rushed for more than 400 yards during their game against Morehead State on Sept. 16,  and picked up where they left off, rushing for 293 yards against the Racers. The Governors defeated Morehead State 69-13 and snapped the nation’s longest losing streak of 29 games.

The Governors got off to a fast start against Murray State and never looked back, opening a 20-0 lead in the first half. Austin Peay dominated the game on the ground controlling the clock, holding the ball for 37 minutes and running 32 more plays than the Racers. The Racers finished the game with 88 yards (50 yards passing, 38 yards rushing) on 55 plays averaging 1.6 yards per play. Both teams surrendered two turnovers, but only the Governors were able to capitalize.   

The Racers will look to try and find some answers on offense Saturday as they travel to Papa John’s Stadium to take on the University of Louisville.
